Recommended Bylaw Changes

Recommended Bylaw changes with rationale:

1.3 Registered Office
Change to reflect current PO Box.

Rationale: This past year we moved our PO Box from Bankers Hall to the Mission PO. All that is required is to update the address.

3.10 Board Composition
The change proposed here is to separate the Secretary-Treasurer into two positions and eliminate the Director position. Total Board members would remain at four.
This change would then affect all other entries under "Secretary-Treasurer" on lines 3.13, 3.14, 3.15, 3.16 and potentially in a few other places.

Rationale: Currently, the Director (formerly "Member-at-Large" position) is under-utilized and too vague with no tangible and regular duty. The Treasurer has arguably the greatest workload and to remove the need to complete meeting minutes (which is currently the job of the "Secretary" portion of "Secretary-Treasurer") would allow for less work for the Treasurer and give the fourth person on the executive (Secretary) a tangible duty.

3.15 Election of Officers and Directors of the Board
"Only members who have been with the club for at least one year prior to the election will be eligible to run for the positions of President, Vice President, or Secretary-Treasurer."

Change to:
"Only members who have been with the club for at least one year prior to the election will be eligible to run for the positions of President and Treasurer. The Vice President and Secretary position will be open to members who have raced in the previous season (if not members for one calendar year)."

Rationale: This will allow members who have joined the club in the new calendar year to run for said executive positions rather than have had to be in the club during the time of the previous AGM.

Greetings Synergists,

The sun is finally out which means only one thing in calgary, it must almost be july. June has been an unbelievable month for the club. We've been having great success all over the province...

Starting with the pigeon lake road race that happened on june 6th, the women were well represented with Caeli finishing 5th in the womens A/B combined category. The story of the weekend though goes to Andrew Cullingham, who absolutely blew up in the field in his first race in cat 3 taking the big "W" in the group sprint. Get your autographs before he turns pro. Also turning heads was Eric johnston dominating the field in cat 5 taking home another win in his respective category for synergy.

Off to Canmore for the next weekend to test the lungs at the iron lung mtb bike race. Not only was the weather beyond hot, the course was technical and hilly including a section of pump tracks and jumps. Again, Caeli ripped up the course and missed the podium by one but landing fourth in the womens expert category. Elise Walsh looked strong as she stole silver in the womens novice youth category. The surprise of the weekend goes to CP as he rolled up saturday morning looking like a champ on a brand new mountain bike. way to rip it up cp! Try as i might, i still dont have the legs as some of the big boys out there but managed to land  14th in the mens elite field. Smiles all around on a beautiful saturday in Canmore.

Banff Bife Fest attracted some of the best riders in the country and lived up to its name this past weekend. The roads were fast and crashes were frequent. Mark McConnel destroyed cat 4 by winning the prologue and Graham brought his "A" game as he flew into fourth in the mens cat 2/3 category. I still had synergy in my heart all week although i was racing for CMC/ Bow Cycle and did my best to rep the colours of the club as i managed to place 12th in the invited mens 1A road race.

We are truly into racing season now. As i update the blog i'm getting ready to head off to nationals in edmonton this weekend and best of luck to everyone in the upcoming races.

Let me know if i'm missing any results.

till next time, Bailey

Dear Synergists,

Just thought i would update you on some early season achievements from some of the riders in the club. First and foremost, Caeli Barron has been ripping up the trails out east posting an impressive 8th place in the Junior Expert women at the Hardwood Canada cup. Just wait until she gets her cast off! Also, the 7 hour car ride to saskatoon full of micheal bubble and pre race junk food seemed to pay off even though the weather didn't seem to want to cooperate. Mark McConnell crushed the competition sweeping up the cat 5 GC win after successfully winning the road race and the crit. Chapeau too Andrew Cullingham who also won the road race and the crit. Good job boys! As always, velocity stage race up in edmonton brought together the best riders in Alberta. Graham Courtney and Troy Delfs rounded out the podium at the crit in cat 3 while Eric Johnston also tore it up taking the u17 GC win. If i missed anyone let me know

As it was mentioned earlier, i would like to start doing synegry recovery rides on monday nights. As soon as calgary realises its not january ill be wanting to do easy one hour recovery rides from the top of edworthy hill. Hope everyone is having an awesome early season.

till next time,

Bailey
