That guy in the middle sure is good-looking. Do you know if he's single? Nice shirt, too.

Hey all,

Just asking for some advice/suggestions:
I'm looking to ask for a set of rollers for Xmas from my family. However, I can't decide what set is the best quality/value, and I would appreciate any input from those of you with experience with these things.

Which is best?
Aluminum or PVC drums?
110mm or 80mm cross-section drums?

Is there anything else I should consider?
What do you recommend for manufacturers?
So far, I have looked at BK's Kreitler Dyno-Myte rollers, I'm sort of curious whether there is something in a lower price range that would do the job required.

Any input would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Reid

Are you looking for easy spinning or a hard workout? Kreitlers (aluminium drums) are apparently the best quality. The lower the diameter, the more resistance built-in. For more work, you can add "headwind" resistance units that will also keep you cool. I can only quote heresay - I haven't ridden them myself.

I ride plastic TAXX rollers, about 3" diameter. I change resistance by changing tyres on my bike. For low resistance, I use my Vittoria open corsa cx's. For more resistance, I use my MEC Hutchisons.

I work up a good sweat. I expect the rollers generate a fair amount of static electricity, but haven't shocked myself or made the rug I ride on go bald.

If I had the budget, I'd go and but a set or kreitlers, but I don't know what diameter I'd buy.

Good luck.

Thanks for all the info, folks. I think Frank and I are going in on a pair of Minoura Action rollers - aluminum and compact size for $170 USD.
